Student Scholarships

In Surya Secondary Boarding School, there are many stories of student scholarship projects, and among them, we are going to highlight a few in this blog. Dr. Bidhya (seen in the photo below on the left side) who became the only dentist from our school, serves her own village. She promised the founder/president of our organization, Narayan Shrestha, HHHE, that she would “walk on his footsteps by serving the people of her own village like he has been doing.” She is very bright, intelligent, dedicated, loyal, and a pleasant human being.

The student in the middle of the photo, next to Mr. Shrestha, Ms. Himani Shree Pokharel, is also a graduate of Surya Boarding School. She had been sponsored by us and is now studying as a student of public health at the Pokhara University in Nepal. Through the help of Watson Caring Signs Institute, she is graduating this fall with her bachelor’s degree in public health. Himani has a dream to complete her schooling with a master’s degree and eventually return to her own village, like Dr. Bidhya has done.

Ms. Pasang Sherpa, standing on the left, is sponsored by one of our good family friends, Mr. Chip Isenhart, and his wife, Jill Isenhart, along with their 2 children, Hannah and Jessie. This family works so hard to make Pasang’s education possible. They have sponsored her and her family since the early stages of her life. Sadly, her father disappeared and no one knows what happened. She just graduated from high school and, together, we are making sure she will be admitted into a good university in Nepal.

Mr. Kumar BK, in the middle, is also sponsored by the Isenhart family. Both Pasang and Kumar are sponsored through their efforts, however, Helping Hands Health Education has been influential to manage their educational funds. The Isenhart family has been friends with Mr. Shrestha for many years. Because of their friendship, the Isenhart family made a trip to Nepal and found that these two families needed help. Kumar and his sister, Sarita, have been supported through Helping Hands for many years now. Kumar is finishing his MBA degree in a year and a half and Sarita will become a government teacher after completing her bachelor’s degree. Kumar and Sarita are orphans. We need many more Isenhart’s in the world to support Helping Hands Health Education’s goals to sponsor students from Surya Secondary Boarding School.

Standing on the right, Mr. Robin Kalikote was a student of Surya Secondary Boarding School. He was first in his class all throughout his schooling. He has completed his high school degree with the help of one of our volunteers, Mr. Matt Bubernack (who taught in Surya Secondary Boarding School where he met Robin as his computer science student). Robin is pursuing his bachelor’s degree in computer science, and once he completes this, he would like to go back to his village and become a computer science teacher at Surya Secondary Boarding School, so that he can follow and support Mr. Shrestha’s vision.

These students having a lunch at a restaurant on the way to Surya Secondary Boarding School ( SSBS ) Khandbari. It will take them two days of ride to reach there. They look very much happy and exited.

The founder and chairman of Surya Boarding Secondary Boarding school, Mr. Narayan Shrestha, met with Ms. Emily Freedman from the Oda Foundation, in Kathmandu back in February 2022. They were connected by a mutual friend, Mr. Kevin Sofen of the Darley Corporation, which turned out to be a successful introduction of two organizations, to help the people of Nepal.

During the meeting, they agreed to do work in health and education. Helping Hands Health Education ( HHHE ) offered to host three orphans ( siblings ) from the same parents, to Surya Secondary Boarding School ( SSBS ) to educate them at the Khandbari site. These Orphans are from western Nepal, which is much more remote and underdeveloped than eastern parts of Nepal. They arrived just a few days ago and are now staying at the school permanently.

We need the funding to support the school's expenses and we are looking for a kind and generous sponsor to help these orphan’s education so that some day in the future they can go back to their village with a higher education to help their own people. This is the kind of education SSBS teaches to the students. That is why SSBS works so hard to improve the lives of the children whenever and however we can.

The yearly cost of three children to get education at SSBS is $4,500.00. This includes 4 meals a day for 365 days, room, books, uniform, school supplies, classroom and exam fees, as well entertainment.
